Rules of Competition

The PUKKO Rules of Competition follows those of the
WUKO RULES on KATA & KUMITE Competitions with slight modification on KATA Rules to suit the existing Karate systems in the PUKKO.

WUKO has under it recognized EIGHT (8) Karate Styles
namely:

>Shotokan Karate
>Shito Ryu Karate
>Goju Ryu Karate
>Wado Ryu Karate
>Okinawan Shorin Ryu Karate
>Okinawan Uechi Ryu Karate
>Kyokushinkai Karate
>Budokan Karate

PUKKO presently has under it organizations practicing Four (4) styles:

>Shotokan Karate
>Shito Ryu Karate
>Goju Ryu Karate (Japanese & Okinawan Systems)
>Shorin Ryu Karate 
(Kyudokan, Matsumura.Shorinyu and Shidokan systems)

UNIQUE FEATURES OF WUKO KARATE & RULES OF COMPETITIONS:

>WUKO recognizes, respects and upholds the traditional values and approaches of true karate. It is democratic and non-discriminative. It recognizes both the young and the old practitioners and importantly the "roots"/lineages of respective styles.

>The KATA Events for CHILDREN (6 - 14 years old) are organized according to: STYLES, RANK/LEVEL/BELT, AGE and GENDER (Boys/Girls)

>KATA Events are judged according to points (Score Cards System)

>KATAS are classified into three (3) categories SHITEI (The Basics/Kihon of respective styles generally Pinan/Heian/Gekisai/Fukyugata) which is the COMPULSARY Kata for Round-1 for all Children and Belt categories;  SENTEI and TOKUI.  Round 2 designates either Shitei or Sentei Katas depending on the Rank Division and Tokui done for Final Rounds, usually from Cadets Division and above.

>KATA & KUMITE Events are divided into the following Categories:

*CHILDREN:
A:    6 -    below
B:    7-8   years old
C:    9-10 years old
D:  11-12 years old
E:  13-14 years old
*CADETS:    15 - 17 years old
*JUNIORS:   18 - 20 years old
*SENIORS:           21-35  years old 
*VETERANS-A:    36 -45 years old
*VETERANS-B:    46 years old and above

>CADETS and above are further sub-divided by Weight Categories (Kilograms)

>KUMITE are organized into Three (3) Events:
1. Shobu IPPON Kumite  (1 point / 2 waza-ari)
2. Shobu NIHON Kumite  (2 Ippon / 4 waza-ari)
3. Shobu SANBUN Kumite (3) Ippon / 6 waza-ari)

>KUMITE is judged under any of the following systems:

1.  Mirror Type (Referee/Judge)
2.  Referee / 4-Corner Judges / Flag System
3.  AKA(Red) and SHIRO (White) colors in effect for:
>Flags
>Mitts
>Headgears
>Competitors
